Managing finances while living with schizoaffective disorder

Managing money is not easy with mood swings, low motivation or impulsivity. Some simple tasks such as paying bills, tracking spending or budgeting may feel overwhelming at times of high-stress or depressive episodes. Hence, it is important to find such routines which work and can make a big difference.

Some said that they use automatic payments, budgeting apps or financial coaching to keep things on track. Others relied on trusted family members or friends for the same. Small systems of accountability can simultaneously also prevent overspending or missed deadlines.

Sharing strategies with others is helpful. It highlights creative solutions. Some schedule weekly check-ins with a friend or therapist to review finances. Others use visual reminders for different expenses.

What about you? How you manage your finances while balancing mood as well as psychotic symptoms? Do you use apps, routines or support from others?

The way you express the relationship between your money and your mood is positive, as it shows that there are ways to take practical actions to help keep things stable. You acknowledge the difficulty that many people have with financial responsibilities in stressful times, and you identify ways to realistically create action items for supporting oneself.
