How you Manage Bipolar Disorder While Working or Studying

Managing bipolar disorder is not easy while working or studying as workplaces and schools often have tight deadlines, long hours and stressful situations. This can affect mood and energy levels. Many notice that symptoms show up more quickly when they are too overtired or highly overwhelmed. They even feel the same while trying to juggle too many responsibilities simultaneously.

Some claims that proper planning ahead makes things easier. They usually make use of calendars, set up reminders, break tasks into smaller pieces or keep a steady routine. Others claim taking short breaks during the day, staying hydrated, getting some fresh air or stepping away when they start to feel overstimulated are appropriate for them.

There is simultaneously also a serious question whether to tell teachers, bosses or co-workers about the condition. Some open up as it helps them in getting support or adjustments. Others prefer not to and manage things quietly. Both can be considered as valid depending on comfort level and environment.

Others here can share their experiences as what has helped in managing bipolar disorder while working or studying. Are there any other tricks, routines or supports?

Having an uncomplicated, predictable work schedule helps me to be more successful at work. I develop a daily plan the night prior and break large tasks into smaller segments so that I do not become overwhelmed. When I notice that my head is getting jumbled up, I give myself a small pause. I usually take a moment to go outside for a breath of fresh air.
